If you have seen MTV’s “Cribs,” you might think that every celebrity has a large theater in their house with seating for 30. Just because a celeb has a large theater doesn’t mean that’s the only way. The right home theater room for you might only have seating for a few, and that is great as well. Remodeling a small room for your theater can be a great way to repurpose part of your house without making the theater the main feature in your home.
One customer used an old office space as their home theater room. The room was on the second floor, and fit just a couple of desks. When the couple that owned the home retired, they decided they wanted to make a space where they could watch their favorite movies. They didn’t want to turn their family room into a theater, as it was the room they always used for their Christmas tree. They didn’t have the money to add on another room and decided that having a small theater was fine for them. Turning the room into a smaller theater worked out fine for them. They used a projector mounted to the ceiling to project their favorite DVDs, freeing up wall space. A riser let them put in six small chairs in two rows, letting them still be able to invite guests into their theater.
Another customer was only interested in being able to watch movies on his own. He was part of the film industry, and his job involved screening several films a week. His home theater room was big enough for two overstuffed chairs and a large plasma screen. As an extension of his home office, he didn’t want the theater to dominate his house. Using a small room off of his office was a good way to make sure that the theater, part of his 9 to 5 life, didn’t occupy too much of his 5 to 9 home.
A theater in your house is a definite luxury, but is possible no matter the size of your home. Repurposing a small office, a parlor or a basement bedroom is a great way to tuck in a bit of luxury into your castle without breaking the bank. With today’s flat panel TVs and projection systems, you can squeeze in a fine little theater to any size room and enjoy the latest flicks in luxury.
